51 : Emilie and Patrick
The energy builds in anticipation as Emilie and Patrick prepare to make their grand reception entrance. It's always in this moment that I quietly move around the room with my camera to visually soak in the atmosphere. The seating arrangement written on antique window panes guides guests to tables with names like Cardinal and Heron. A casual line forms at the bar where guests order pints of local Adirondack beer. Young nieces and nephews play along the edge of the tent, dancing sunlight behind them. The tables are impeccably decorated with lace runners, extravagant floral arrangements, and perfectly mismatched china. Everywhere around me, people are talking and laughing, engaged in authentic conversation, as they wait for the bride and groom's entrance.
It's not every day that I get to photograph a wedding in the heart of the Adirondacks. We followed a trail along Ausable Canyon to the perfect setting for the wedding party photos. In the background a lake, dotted with grey tree stumps, gives way to robust fall foliage in a medley of greens, yellows, and reds, framed by a small mountain range covered in coniferous trees. I was excited to have such a unique backdrop for Emilie and Pat's photos.
The ceremony and reception was held on Patrick's family property at the foot of Whiteface Mountain. Patrick's sister, a fellow photographer with a keen sense of light, had picked the perfect spots for each part of the celebration. Soft sun from the west lights the ceremony and a wooden archway decorated with beautiful florals forms a focal point for the occasion. Just beside the house, guests mingle during cocktail hour, enjoying the abundant plates of cheese, meats, and grapes as the sun sets. And then, with a magic cue, the guests amble over to the reception tent, waiting for Emilie and Patrick to join them.
