Frequently Asked Questions

If you've never been photographed, t's natural to have questions. Here, Montreal photographer Selena Phillips-Boyle answers her most Frequently Asked Questions. Of course, you may have questions of your own. Feel free to contact her directly on the contact page or send her an email at lifebyselena(at)gmail(dot)com.

Q1: Why should we hire a professional photographer?
A1: Great-Uncle Jimmy may have a camera, but a professional photographer can you give you their undivided attention, not to mention their years of experience and professional equipment.

Q2: What’s your most popular wedding photography package?
A2: My most popular wedding photography package is my Owl Package: 10 hours of wedding photography for $2400. As a point of reference, my prices start at $1600 for 5-hours of shooting with my Sparrow Package.

Q3: Do you still shoot weddings in Alberta?
A3: I love travelling home for a wedding. My mom loves it too. Each year I cover the costs of two weddings in Alberta.

Q4: Do you travel other places for weddings?
A4: I’m always keen for an adventure! I’ve travelled for weddings in Banff, Vancouver, the Adirondacks, and small-town Saskatchewan, to name a few. All I ask is that you cover the basic cost of travel and accommodation.

Q5: Where should we do my portrait or engagement session?
A5: Do you have a favourite place? Are you looking for an urban vibe or to relax in nature? I can always make a suggestion, although a place that’s significant for you is best. Most people choose two locations.

Q6: What if it rains?
A6: If it’s raining, we can reschedule for another day. Or we can get creative and bring out the umbrellas! For weddings, I like to keep a few indoor locations up my sleeve to use as a backup plan.

Q7: What should I wear for my portrait or engagement session?
A7: The most important thing is to feel comfortable and confident in the clothes you wear. We can even make time for a wardrobe change or two. If the shoot is with a couple or a group, I suggest finding complementary outfits.

Q8: Should we bring props to our photo session?
A8: Have a favourite activity to do with your partner? Let’s photograph it! Want to plan ahead for thank-you cards? Let’s make it happen!

Q9: Can we get photos with our parents, siblings, grandparents, Aunt Rosaline, my favourite teacher, and pet monkey?
A9: Of course! Getting the family together is often a highlight of a wedding or special event. If this is important to you, let’s make time in the day to get photos with everyone.

Q10: Do you provide high-resolution photos? How many photos can I expect to get?
A10: I provide the highest resolution jpegs, ideal for printing, as well as lower resolution files, ideal for uploads to social media. The quantity of photos I deliver always depends on how long I’m shooting for; typically you can expect about 50 photos/hour.

Q11: Do you make photo albums for weddings or family sessions?
A11: You bet! Quotes are free. Most people order an 8x12inch 30-page book, but this is subject to your personal preference.

Q12: Do you have a photography studio?
A12: I have studio access and am skilled at using studio lighting and equipment. If this is something you’d like, we can make it happen.
